The 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence Campaign, which runs from November 25—International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women—to December 10—Human Rights Day—is a period of time when people around the world can unite to take action to stop violence against women and girls. The first Women’s Global Leadership Institute, organized by the Center for Women’s Global Leadership in 1991, served as the inspiration for the global campaign.
For far too long, impunity, silence, and stigma have allowed gender-based violence to reach epidemic proportions—one in every three women globally experiences gender-based violence.
